Ding dong Dekopompo is dead!! So fitting he died to his own foolishness.

Really thought Maroro was going to figure the disguise out or they would tell him but seems like he's just going to go off on his own...

Alas there will be no more "~Nyamo!"

Why yes, how can you resist that big bag of juicy meat when you are the starving lizard that's been in a cage for a few month.

Forky • 1 year ago

For a second I thought you were talking about Maroro seeing Oshtor. XD

Nonono • 1 year ago

maybe he will uncover it later,
since he's the first person to realized something not right about haku

Damn that is cold there for Haku (oshtor) being tough on his old friend at the end of scene!

Wish Anju was here like in VN, her being in this scene had meaning for her development :/

HyperboreanKair∅s • 1 year ago

Isn't she still voiceless though, ppl were speculating her speech will come in a better arranged time.

Anonymous Person • 1 year ago

Her voice was back at this point in the game. I'm guessing it will happen later in anime.

Satisfying to see Dekopompo get destroyed. Love war drama like this where they are showing tactics and strategy being used.

Fun fact: most war casualties pre-firearm occurred during the retreat in battle not during the battle itself.

Dragnorock • 1 year ago

I had been waiting for him to get wrecked as soon as he was first introduced. You know the Emperor knew Dekopompo was a greedy loose cannon. But I guess when you lived thousands of years, your like fuck it. I just thought of super troopers and now I want to see a Farva with a lot of power.

Celestial Dragon Emperor • 1 year ago

Unlike his son, Dekopompo, his late father was a well-known and established general who serve the Emperor loyally and establish his house as one of the vassal houses of Yamato Empire.

I think the Emperor, in his wisdom , despite knowing the debauchery and disgusting side of Dekopompo, really had no choice, but to recognize the idiot as one of the Eight Pillars as he still needs the noble vassal houses and generals to rule the Empire.

Moreover, Dekopompo's father also begged the Emperor of Yamato, Mikado to let his son to take over his role as one of the Eight Pillars. Probably out of feeling gratitude for his servant loyalty to him and not wanting to spit on that loyalty, Mikado let the old general's son (idiot) be one of the Eight Pillars.

Everytime I watch new episode it always saddening to see grief of all people that have parted with their dearest ones. Maroro, Nekone even Haku himself.

Kranesh • 1 year ago

Maroro is the biggest loser here, he really loved Haku a lot and seeing him despairing at the end of the episode was heart wrenching, he deserved better... but at least I'm happy that Dekopompo is finally dead, I legit clapped when it happened in the VN! XD

And yes, that moment between Maroro and Haku shows that Haku's deception has its flaws, if Maroro was able to tell that something was not right with "Oshtor", then imagine what would happen when someone with more insight shows up... things are gonna get very spicy down the line because of that.

As someone who's read this visual novel...
The biggest takeaway right now is that Reiko foresaw this defeat and he's got a plan in action right now.
The biggest flaw right now is that we're not seeing what's going on in Tuskur right now. As of right now, Kuon made it back to Tuskur and is assisting her party members indirectly. That includes giving an ointment to assist Anju. Infact, Anju should have been present to witness this battle, motivate the troops, and witness the horrors of war. This is all FOR Anju to reclaim her throne as the legitimate princess and now she's seeing the complete repercussions of that statement. This could have been used as a step for Anju to slowly mature into the leader she's going to need to lead Yamato assuming she's not defeated by Reiko's troops first. This is not presented but may be presented at a later date but the impact will be drastically reduced.
We're also not seeing how desperate the situation is for Anju's legitimacy. They're hardly getting enough troops, the troops have little to no training, and supplies are in very limited supply. Its not very difficult to see this falling apart. As do most rebellions.

Kranesh • 1 year ago

I think the anime is rearranging some events from the VN, I'm sure we're going to see most of that down the line considering this season has 28 episodes total... then again, we have no real idea about the proper pacing so we'll have to wait and see what content gets actually skipped.

3:36 Nice. That would kill the morale of the enemy troops.
4:35 The salt is real!!! Lol!!!
7:49 I'm guessing 'duck,' isn't part of their military training.
8:24 Just want to acknowledge to @Celestial Dragon Emperor he was right about his comment in the previous ep.

10:00 Priceless. Lmao!!!
10:37 Welp!!!
11:04 Yeah, especially that fool of a general. Now he knows what Phucc Around and Find Out means.

13:12 Sayeth the man that lost over a few hundred troops.
14:32 She is so cute, in a blood thirsty way. Lol!!!
15:15 He did he NOT know this was gonna happen!?!! He even Effing kicked it.
16:14 Welp!!!

Feel bad that Maroro does not know the truth about Haku. Maybe one day.

Just wondering when the others will find out that Raikou is behind this coup and to overthrow the current powers that be. Good ep, but knew that Dekoponpo and his Number One man were through with this plane of existence.

This anime is s2 ??

Forky • 1 year ago

Essentially. The previous season finished 6 years ago.

Kranesh • 1 year ago

Not really, there's already 2 previous anime adaptations of Utawarerumono, the first one that aired in 2006 and Mask of Truth that aired in 2016, this current Utawarerumono anime is the third season.

Forky • 1 year ago

Depends on how you look at it. Mask of Deception/Truth can be seen as a sequel multi-season series as it takes place many years after and focuses on an entirely new cast, so you can call Mask of Truth the second season as it is continuing the unfinished story. Where as the 2006 series is it's own contained and completed story.

I'm certainly not saying you're wrong though.

Kranesh • 1 year ago

Well... you are right as well, we can say it's a matter of perspective.

As a die-hard fan of the series, this isn't going well. Main characters do the most random crap when they're being shown off fighting. It looks like it's directed horribly! I'm gonna be optimistic that things will improve as the show goes on, but this is a very mediocre start.

HyperboreanKair∅s • 1 year ago

You realize this specific part is related to a battle section of the story and this is based off a game, right? Unless they are fighting a story relevant character the battle will be seen as somewhat random, I think the only part of the fight that mattered was setting the soldiers on fire and Maro being distraught and purposeless after the death of Haku.

Forky • 1 year ago

There's a game? I had no idea. Must have been a Jaguar title. It is kind of weird to have fight scenes in a battle, right? I mean, that seems to be what your arguing against and I don't quite follow, but I'm assuming you put thought any of your words.

I'm assuming you're the director, so I'm sorry I came off as hard on your project. I understand why'd you be so protective against the criticism as you put honest work into it. I appreciate you taking the busy time out of your schedule to reply, and definitely wouldn't fault you for having a knee-jerk reaction.

HyperboreanKair∅s • 1 year ago

... You done with your fairytail now? -10 points for upvoting yourself lmao.

This show isn't foul-proof, sweetpeas. I had to do an on and off wikia search while I was rewatching the 1st and 2nd season because the anime directors focused mostly on character interaction and left the entire lore of the most relevant character behind the scenes, that's where I found out they do have a pretty successful story-strategy based game for this season for the ps4 and 5 if memory serves me right. It makes sense how the battle here wouldn't have the entire cast play an integral role in it.

Idk why you were so salty when I made a pretty reasonable comment before, but I do know how hard it was to not fall asleep while watching from the start just so I could get a fresh experience from this new season. What happened this episode was hardly an upset, the story has barely picked up from the previous point and it already has more action that we hoped the other ones had. You said you were a "diehard fan of the series" before, you just sound like a petty hater. Don't be so angry at nothing and try to enjoy the experience.

Forky • 1 year ago

It's true. I made an alternate account that actually has a picture, and is spam for an adult dating site, all so I could upvote a reply, and not my original post, to someone who stands on a white horse to valiantly defend anime from criticism by making the most opaque and self-serving imagined situation, and arguing that. I thought you didn't have a lick of sense, but then I saw the other reply to my sarcasm, and realized you're just blindly over-passionate pot calling the kettle black, and not actually as dense and dull as a bowling ball.

If you can put aside your endless crippling love of the anime, I'd recommend trying the games on PS4/PSVita. They're not too pricey for physical copies from what I last saw, but make sure to play both as the story in the anime diverges a bit in Itsuwari No Kamen/Mask of Deception.
I'd have to install again to double-check, but be wary that the last time I looked, they were not PS5 compatible, and I have no idea why. Only Prelude to the Fallen was PS5 compatible. They're all also on Steam too if that's an easier option.

But yes, This game/season takes place around an active war, so it is going to be more action based. Apparently people fight in wars. I wasn't sure, until you rambled on about it. (Had to add this bit because I was worried I'd end it on a too informative note for our present discourse.)

HyperboreanKair∅s • 1 year ago

Yes people fight in wars, and for some reason you complained that people were seemingly doing "whatever" in said war. Why can't you just assume you made a petty comment? Feel free to intellectually one-up me since I clearly had a bone to pick, however, my bone was that the season barely just started. Just chill for a bit will ya?

Forky • 1 year ago

Are you hoping I forget what I said and just assume that your imagined statement is the one I made? Because, that seems to be the hill you want to die on in this fight you keep trying to pick. Also, putting quotes around a word I didn't use, doesn't mean that I have suddenly used it. Why can't you just accept you made up a conclusion to jump to because you like picking fights in comments?

Put down the Pepsi(or iced tea, I don't know you), have some water, and let the sugar/caffeine drain from your system long enough to "chill" out. You didn't contribute to this show. You've brought nothing to it. There's no reason to go nuts because I show sharp disapproval for how the action was handled in an episode. From the unnecessary backwards jumping archers, to the immobile invincible beast having the one weakness of being slightly more immobile. I have other issues, but I just wanted to focus trying to point out the difference between a fight scene, and a plot focus on war; which I wrongfully assumed was obvious.

Man, it would really suck too if my original comment said I'm going to be "optimistic" and suggested it would improve and went so far as to call the "start" mediocre. I'm not intellectually one-upping you. I never considered intellect a factor with you. I'm just trying to point out that you're being willfully dense for the sake of stirring up trouble. It takes a lot of words to try and make someone understand something, but I don't know how to break it down further.

I really hope you get all the upvotes you need to validate yourself. But I also hope you take the time to think about what you're doing in the future. If I made you feel "intellectually one-upped" or "stupid", I'm sorry. I'm really just trying to point out that defending something doesn't mean you're not a dick.

HyperboreanKair∅s • 1 year ago

I didn't make my comment expecting upvotes, I always try to be fair and that (usually) actually translates to me receiving downvotes my guy. Also, I guess I'm dumber than you given I don't write through such long-winded paragraphs to give my thoughts, if I wanted to stir up trouble with you for the sake of it I wouldn't be honest about any of those things.

I was forced to remind what you said by your comment given I quoted you wrongly, so instead of you saying characters were doing "whatever" you said the characters were doing "random crap", thanks for making me go back just to see you said the same thing in different words but not like that matters to you right?

Btw there's no way for me to know what your original comment said about being optimistic when your account is private, sweetpeas. I genuinely engaged with you even tho you're smarter than me, and you are one-upping me with your well written essays, and I'm not complaining about that I just didn't expect to be engaged in that way in an anime such as this one. I don't do this with a frequency you see, so can you take my comment as a neutral one in regards to your apparent road to criticize this "okay" work? I'm not being willfully dense, I'm trying to say you are *complaining too quickly* over something not that relevant. I don't pull punches when it comes to other shows, I'm giving this one the benefit of the doubt given how early it is, and for how I craved action for God knows how long for this one.

Forky • 1 year ago

You replied to my original comment so you are FULLY capable of reading it. It's still right there in comments. I know you know this because you went back and checked the same original post to check that I said "random crap" and tried to grill me about that.
Don't bother looking at my profile. It's been private for awhile now after one-too-many stalkers.

You really didn't open with a neutral comment. "You realize(...), right?" is a statement of the other party's ignorance, while ending in a question to provoke discourse. Your follow-up was trying to call me out for upvoting myself (in turn, trying to claim the high ground in upvote values as well), using a nickname on a stranger which is condescending (in this context. Although sweatpeas is sincerely adorable.), and calling me a "petty hater" who's "angry at nothing".
It's also not neutral to create specific details on someone's intent and then argue against a statement you created for them.

I'm not "one-upping" you. I'm just trying to comprehensively express my point. You've shown your fully capable of doing that yourself. If you want to oppose someone's opinion with neutrality, the easiest way is with a sincere question. Not with passive-aggressive jabs, aggressive jabs, or trying to establish their point-of-view so you can argue that.

The action craving thing is something you're definitely not alone in. I personally enjoyed each half of the story in the games, but it's a very common complaint I've seen for Mask of Deception that there aren't many battles so there aren't enough opportunities for excitement. The length of Mask of Deception put so much work into establishing characters so you can feel everything in Mask of Truth hit harder from the events and character growth. This means there's VERY little character growth left for Mask of Deception as well, so there's not even a lot of non-battle excitement.

HyperboreanKair∅s • 1 year ago

Here's the thing though, you clearly read into my comment more than what I intended. I asked if you realized of the fact not in an ill intended way, and ironically enough you overreacted that first statement the same way you overreacted about the episode. I'm not trying to "gotcha" you by saying that, this is genuinely how it feels.

Now that I went back on your comment because of your previous statement, I also didn't do it to "grill you". I did it to hold you accountable of accusing me of taking you out of context when I didn't, so I was protecting myself while also clarifying I didn't take any of your words in bad faith and was as transparent as possible.

I don't want to go further dissecting your replies, especially when I don't gain anything because I really don't hold a grudge a against you, despite what you seem to think.

I'll just end by acknowledging I read everything you said, and I'll repeat myself again, judge the anime separately from the source material. I was really frustrated rewatching season 1 and 2, but animewise season 2 outperformed season 1, and this 3rd season is laying out the story without the frustration it was dealing with MCs who acted like they were complete buns but are actually really relevant to the tug war in the overall development. The story is starting slow but already better than all the others so I'm just asking you to give the benefit of the doubt in seeing how the outcome is going to turn out, instead of blatantly insulting at first given notice.
